Retz Pope crop2.pngIt’s been a rapid rise to prominence for Rethlyn ‘Retz’ Pope, who has gone from Sales Assistant to Warehouse Manager in just three years.

Our now Epsom-based fishing fanatic was offered the chance to join Wolseley back in 2018 as a Sales Assistant at our Wandsworth branch - and he’s certainly been a good catch! In fact, it’s been a tale of near-constant progress, as this is his third promotion in as many years.

He explains: “I began as a Sales Assistant and then my job title changed to Technical Sales Assistant. Then, last year, I took on the role of Transport Supervisor in Epsom where I am based now, before being promoted again to Warehouse Manager last month.”

Retz attributes his rapid success to sheer hard work and a strong desire to learn and develop. “Since the day I started, my main ambition has always been just to keep my head down and work hard,” he said. “The good advice I’ve always carried with me is to never settle and always push myself to be better every day.”

When asked what it is about his new role that challenges and excites him most, he added: “Now that I’m in a managerial position, the key thing for me is to deal with the fast-paced environment we’re all working in and successfully lead my team to ensure we accomplish our day-to-day tasks.”

Retz also cites his first Branch Manager Sawan Shah as the biggest influence on his career to date, and someone who he describes as a true role model – even though the pair no longer work together.

Sawan told us: “When I employed Retz at our Wandsworth branch a few years ago, I had high hopes for him in his progression given his hard work, work ethic and determination.  We often spoke about having in your mind your next two moves and it seems he has kept this up.  I am happy to see his progression within our region. Well deserved!”

But he’s not done climbing the career ladder yet. In fact, he’s already eyeing up his fourth promotion! “I am looking to progress to branch manager,” he said. “It’s a position I’ve always wanted, to have ownership of a branch.”
